Flipd is built around accountability through community: live study rooms with thousands of people focusing at once, group leaderboards, and daily or weekly challenges you can compete in. For people who focus better with an audience, that's a real advantage, seeing others working alongside you is a genuinely effective motivator for some.

The tradeoff is that Flipd's blocking is tied to a session, and the app around that session is designed to be checked, group rankings, streaks, challenge progress. That's a different relationship with your phone than removing the app entirely. Fella doesn't have sessions, rooms, or leaderboards to check. Selected apps are blocked from setup onward, with one 5-minute emergency unlock per session and nothing social layered on top.

Flipd's live study rooms let you focus alongside other people in real time, either with friends you invite or in public sessions built to make solo focus time feel less isolating. That's a real feature with real accountability behind it, not window dressing, and for people who focus better with company, it works.

But a room is still a place you show up to. Joining one means opening Flipd, picking a session, and being visible to other people in it, which is a different relationship with your phone than an app that's simply not there. The social layer that makes Flipd motivating is also a reason to check Flipd itself.

Fella has no room to join. There's nobody to focus alongside and nothing to opt into, because the block isn't asking for company. It's just there, whether or not anyone else is focusing at the same time.

Challenges and rankings are designed to bring you back. A streak to protect, a rank to defend, a group chat to check, all reasons to open Flipd that have nothing to do with whether you're actually resisting a distracting app in that moment.

For competitive people, that pull can genuinely help. Seeing your rank slip is real motivation. But it's still an external reason to perform, layered on top of the thing you were trying to avoid: checking an app.

Fella has no rank to protect and no streak to keep alive. There's nothing about the app itself worth opening, which is deliberate. The less reason you have to check the blocker, the less it's competing with the apps it's supposed to be blocking.

No session to start, no room to join. Flipd's community features are opt-in and genuinely well-built, but opting in is still a decision you have to make every time. Fella's block doesn't wait for you to decide anything.

If you focus better with company, live rooms, group challenges, and a leaderboard to climb are a real, well-built form of accountability that Fella doesn't try to offer.

Fella is for the days the room doesn't help. If you've joined a session and still ended up scrolling something else anyway, the problem isn't a lack of company, it's that the app was still reachable in the first place.
