Use Screen Time for a basic limit, Downtime for scheduled access, or an iPhone app blocker for the Steam mobile app, with a clear, honest look at exactly what that does and doesn't stop.

This is worth stating plainly before anything else: blocking the Steam app on your iPhone only restricts that specific app on your phone. It has no effect on Steam or any games installed on a Mac, PC, or console. If most of your actual playtime happens on a computer, blocking the mobile app addresses a much smaller part of the picture than the name might suggest.
What the mobile app is actually used for is browsing, not gaming. Checking your library, reading store pages and sales, seeing what friends are playing, and following community discussions are the main things happening on the phone. That browsing can still eat real time, even without a single game launching.
1. Open Settings, then tap Screen Time. If needed, turn on App & Website Activity. Tap App Limits, then Add Limit.
2. Select Steam. Open the Games or Utilities category, select Steam, tap Next, choose the daily allowance, then tap Done. Selecting Steam on its own avoids sharing a limit with other apps you still need.
3. Know what happens when the limit is reached. iPhone shows a Screen Time limit screen, but an App Limit can be ignored by default. Given the app is mostly browsing rather than gameplay, the override is often just as easy to dismiss as scrolling any other feed.
Ask whether the phone is really the problem. If most of your time is spent playing games on a PC or console, blocking the iPhone app won't meaningfully change that. This page, and Fella generally, can only address the mobile app itself.
Do not confuse an override with a failed limit. If you see an Ignore Limit option, the limit has triggered as designed. It is an expected iPhone override, not proof the app was never restricted. See how to stop ignoring Screen Time limits if that override has become automatic for you.
Check the workaround you are actually using. Muting notifications or hiding the icon doesn't block the Steam app, and it has no bearing on your desktop or console play at all.
Downtime blocks most apps during a scheduled period. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Downtime, choose Scheduled, and set the days and hours. This fits well for a work block or bedtime, when browsing your library or checking a sale is most likely to replace time meant for something else.
Turn on Block at Downtime for a real scheduled block. Apple lets Downtime show a reminder by default; with Block at Downtime enabled, restricted apps cannot open during that period. Apps in Always Allowed can remain available, so review that list if Steam is not behaving as expected.
Focus Mode is not a Steam blocker. Focus can silence notifications; it does not stop you opening the app to browse manually.
| Approach | Good for | Weak point |
|---|---|---|
| Delete Steam app | Removes immediate access on this iPhone. | Removes account management convenience on the go; does nothing for desktop play. |
| Screen Time app limit | Basic limits and awareness. | You can choose Ignore Limit, and only affects the mobile app regardless. |
| Fella | Blocking the Steam mobile app by default. | Built for one 5-minute emergency unlock per session; only covers iPhone. |
A dedicated blocker is useful specifically for the mobile-browsing habit, checking your library, a sale, or friends' activity out of reflex. A default-off rule removes that specific pull. If you are still choosing a tool, see our iPhone app-blocking options.
With Fella, add Steam to the apps you want blocked. It stays unavailable by default while the apps you did not select remain accessible.
Use the emergency unlock only for a practical need. Each blocking session includes one 5-minute emergency unlock, enough time to check something specific like a purchase or a friend request. When the five minutes end, Steam locks again automatically.
That is the trade-off, and it's worth restating. Fella addresses the iPhone app only. If your actual playtime is on a computer, that time is untouched by anything on this page.
People whose Steam habit specifically shows up on their phone. If checking your library, a sale, or friends' activity through the mobile app is eating time separate from actual gameplay, that's the pattern Fella is built to interrupt.
People who still need occasional account access on the go. The emergency unlock gives you a window to manage something specific without leaving the app open and reachable all day.
Not a fit if your main concern is desktop or console playtime. This page, and Fella, only address the iPhone app; a different approach is needed for a computer or console.
Use Screen Time App Limits for a daily allowance, Downtime for a scheduled block, or a focused app blocker like Fella to keep the Steam app blocked by default with one 5-minute emergency unlock per session.
No. Blocking the Steam mobile app on your iPhone only restricts that specific app. It has no effect on Steam or any games installed on a Mac, PC, or console, those remain fully accessible unless you separately restrict that device.
The mobile app is used for browsing your library, checking friends' activity, reading store pages and sales, community discussions, and some account or purchase management, not for playing most PC games directly on the phone.
Yes. Use App Limits for a daily allowance, or Downtime for scheduled hours. A reached App Limit can be ignored by default. Fella is a narrower blocker with one 5-minute emergency unlock per session.
Yes. You choose which apps Fella blocks. Steam can be on your list while other apps you rely on stay fully accessible.
No. Fella blocks access to the app on your iPhone. Your library, purchases, and account are untouched, and you can still reach them during your one 5-minute emergency unlock per session.
